Home staging is a process that takes preparations for getting a house ready to sell a bit further, showcasing a house so that homebuyers can visualize living there. Home staging can put some extra dollars in your pocket when it comes to the final selling price, so it’s something that’s definitely worth your time and effort!
Everything from floors to windows must be spotless. Remember to clean the oven and other major appliances. Skylights should be crystal-clear, too. Be sure to eliminate any offensive odors. They’re the first thing buyers notice, and often a permanent turnoff. Also, be sure to rid your house of clutter, such as small appliances on countertops. Put away most of your family photos, as well as any personal collections, so buyers can imagine their own possessions in the home.
Remove excess furniture to make rooms look more spacious, remove rugs to expose hardwood flooring, and any heavy drapes if they keep out natural light or block a great view. Think about adding some fresh flowers or plants, as well. If your walls are dull and dingy, freshen them up with a new coat of paint.
Finally, make sure to make the outside of your home look as great as the inside. Make sure all outdoor lighting works (lots of buyers do nighttime drive-bys of properties), sweep the driveway, and enhance landscaping.
Remember, everything you do will add up to make a great overall first impression to potential buyers. You want them to fall in love with your house as soon as they see it from the street. Every house is different, but the effort you expend now will be worth it in the long run!
