If you’re getting ready to sell real estate in Severna Park, you need not worry about lengthy disruption in traffic because of ongoing sewer line replacement (part of the Capital Improvement Program) along Benfield Road.
“We are constantly meeting with traffic control engineers, monitoring the progress and adjusting the set-up as needed,” said Steve Schummer, a partner with Schummer Construction Inc. of Mayo, the firm replacing the 9,000 feet of main line from the Ben Oaks Sewage Pumping Station.
The firm is completing the nearly $5 million project in phases, Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works Manager Victor Kilbec said.
“Construction crews will be keeping at least one lane of traffic in each direction open at all times,” he said.
During each phase, about 1,500 feet of road will be cloased or subjected to lane shifts, according to the county’s news release.
Additionally, Schummer will use a method called horizontal-directional drilling, which allows most of the work to be performed underground, causing the least amount of disruption possible.
Kilbec expects construction to soon move from Benfield Road to roads with less congestion.
The first phase of the Capital Improvement Program should be completed by mid-February and the whole project by November.
